Alex Cobb has had a dreadful year for the Orioles so naturally he shut the Mets down on their way to a 2-1 loss. Cobb took a no-hitter into the fifth inning when the Mets collected their first hit and only run.
The struggling Jay Bruce got the rally started with a lucky single and Kevin Plawecki followed with a double. After Adrian Gonzalez popped up, Jose Bautista brought the run home with a sacrifice fly.
Unfortunately the Mets were already trailing at the time since Jason Vargas got off to another shaky start. He allowed two runs to score in the first, but he did settle in and limited the damage after looking bad early on.
Seth Lugo was fantastic in relief and Anthony Swarzak pitched a solid innning in his return from the disabled list.
The Mets attempted a rally in the eighth but Asdrubal Cabrera grounded out into a double play and Brad Brach worked around a Jay Bruce walk to nail down the win for the last place Orioles.
Full recap to follow.
