The Mets ended their first half by dropping their finale against the Nationals 6-1 at Citi Field. After an afternoon where it looked like the Mets were going to hang in there against the Nats, the seventh inning saw the bullpen implode for the umpteenth time this year. Thank goodness we’ve got a few days to not watch the Mets.
Corey Oswalt started for the Mets and looked pretty good over his five innings of work. Though only striking out one, Oswalt limited the Nats to two hits, no walks, and one run across 59 pitches. Seth Lugo relieved him, and pitched a scoreless sixth inning.
But in the seventh, Anthony Swarzak, Tim Peterson, and Jerry Blevins combined for five runs from two walks, three singles, and two hit-by-pitches. That would prove too much for the Mets to come back from.
Full recap to follow.
