Jacob deGrom’s agent wants the New York Mets to make a decision on what to do with their star pitcher already. Brodie van Wagenen of Creative Artists Agency put more pressure on the Mets to decide what to do with their ace and 2018 All-Star.
“We have discussed Jacob’s future with the Mets at length. Jacob has expressed interest in exploring a long-term partnership that would keep him in a Mets uniform for years to come,” van Wagenen told Ken Rosenthal. “If the Mets don’t share same interest, we believe their best course of action is to seriously consider trade opportunities now. The inertia of current situation could complicate Jacob’s relationship with the club and creates an atmosphere of indecision.”
The Mets have two more years of control on deGrom after the 2018 season. With their season in free-fall without, deGrom and Noah Syndergaard have been the subject of trade speculation. And thus far this season, deGrom has looked every bit the National League Cy Young favorite. His 1.68 ERA over the course of 123.1 innings is the best in baseball among qualified pitchers, and he leads all pitchers with 6.0 bWAR, as well.
