Final Score: Mets 6, Padres 4 — Forgive us, Fathers

The rubber game goes to the Mets!

MLB: San Diego Padres at New York Mets Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets defeated the Padres by a score of 6-4 this afternoon in Queens, taking the rubber game and the series from the Friars. Starter Corey Oswalt went five innings, giving up two runs across three hit and two walks, while striking out four. The Padres scored their first run in the second inning on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Freddy Galvis, and their second in the fifth on an Austin Hedges home run.

Kevin Plawecki drove in the first of the Mets’ runs with a single in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring Jose Bautista. That opened the floodgates, leading to RBI singles from Phil Evans and Amed Rosario. A two-run home run by Bautista would give the Mets some additional comfort in the bottom of the sixth inning, which they would need, as Freddy Galvis answered with a two-run shot of his own in the next half inning.

Full recap to follow.
