Final Score: Mets 12, Pirates 6—King Me

Cabrera and company clobber Kingham in Mets’ conquest.

MLB: New York Mets at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets struck early and struck often in their 12-6 victory over the surging Pittsburgh Pirates. The Mets scored in each of the first four innings, and in seven innings all together. Tonight’s game was the fifth time this season in which the Mets scored 10 or more runs, and the first since June 18th.

Steven Matz wasn’t at his best, but still managed to exit with some acceptable numbers when it was all said and done. The lefty went six innings and struck out nine while giving up four runs on only three hits. After allowing two runs on a Josh Harrison home run in the third inning, Matz didn’t let another Pirate reach base over his final three innings.

The Mets had enough offense to go around tonight as seven different men scored runs and four different players drove one in. Wilmer Flores fired the opening salvo with his two-run home run in the first inning off of Nick Kingham and the Mets never looked back. Kingham had a rough day for the Buccos, giving up six runs in only three innings of work. The top run producer for the Mets was Asdrubal Cabrera who drove in four of the Mets’ runs and whacked three hits.
