The Mets defend America’s honor with a victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mets ended their quick trip to Canada on a high note with their 6-3 victory over the Blue Jays tonight. After a crushing defeat last night, the Mets rebounded to put together a good game on both sides of the ball. Corey Oswalt and Seth Lugo combined for seven innings to start the game, while only allowing three runs.

The offense did almost all of its damage in the fifth inning as five runs came across to score before the dust settled. The most impressive of the Mets’ six hits that inning was Todd Frazier’s two-run home run, his tenth dinger of the season. All of the Mets’ six runs and all but four of their hits came against Long Island’s own Marcus Stroman, while the Toronto relief corps kept the Mets off the board for the final four innings of the game.

Unlike last night’s dreadful back half, the Mets’ relievers were able to protect the lead and give the Mets a well-deserved win. After the Oswalt-Lugo tandem exited, Jerry Blevins, Robert Gsellman, and Jeurys Familia shut out the Jays for the final two innings of the game to seal the deal.

Full recap to follow.
