Final Score: Phillies 3, Mets 1—No Offense is offensive

The Mets managed only two hits in the second half of their doubleheader.

MLB: Game Two-Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets were shut out in Game 2 of their doubleheader, falling 3-1 to the Phillies. Wilmer Flores had the only two hits in the loss - a first inning single and an RBI double in the ninth inning. Devin Mesoraco struck out as the winning run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth.

Corey Oswalt got off to a brilliant start, perfect through four innings, but walked three batters in the fifth (one intentionally) before allowing a three-run double to the pitcher Aaron Nola. That was the only hit he allowed in six innings of work, but it was enough to put him in line for the loss thanks to a lethargic Met offense that was thoroughly shut down by Phillies’ ace Aaron Nola.

With the split of the doubleheader, the Mets are now 36-52. Twenty-eight-year-old Drew Gagnon makes his debut against twenty-two-year-old Enyel De Los Santos tomorrow evening in game three of the series.

Full recap to follow.
