The Mets defeated the Marlins this afternoon in Miami, 4-3. The game was a back and forth affair that saw each the Marlins scratch back seemingly after every Met run.
Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets this afternoon, and while not at his best, delivered a solid outing. Over the course of seven innings, he struck out seven, walked two, and gave up seven hits. After a Starlin Castro RBI single in the first inning, a pair of Brian Holaday singles plated two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Snydergaard was able to limit the damage, however, and left the game with a lead.
That lead was provided, in part, by Jose Reyes, who hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning. Wilmer Flores drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Michael Conforto hit a solo shot to give the Mets their four runs on the afternoon. The Mets didn’t exactly have a field day against Wei-Yin Chen, with only Reyes collecting two hits on the afternoon.
Robert Gsellman and Seth Lugo each pitched a clean inning in relief of Syndergaard.
Full recap to follow.
