Final score: Mets 16, Orioles 5—Sixteen runs!

The Mets finally beat the Orioles, and they set a new season-high for runs scored in the process.

The Mets absolutely destroyed the Orioles in the finale of their two-game series, winning 16-5 in their first win against Baltimore in four tries this season. The star of the shellacking was Brandon Nimmo, who went 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, and a hit-by-pitch, but he was far from alone in having a great night at the plate. Todd Frazier and Kevin Plawecki drove in four runs apiece, while Wilmer Flores drove in three, and every Met who made a plate appearance in the game had at least one hit.

Zack Wheeler was not at his best, but he allowed just one run in five innings of work. It took him 95 pitches to get through those innings and struck out only three. The Orioles’ other four runs all came against Tim Peterson, who gave them all up over the span of two innings.

Full recap to follow.
