The Mets snapped their four-game losing streak Saturday night, toppling the second-place Braves by a score of 3-0 on the back of a dominant outing by Zack Wheeler. By most measures, it was Wheeler’s best start since his return from Tommy John surgery last season. He dazzled over seven shutout innings, allowing only three hits and a walk with nine punchouts in his fourth-straight victory as he continues to round more and more into a top of the rotation arm.

The offense was not outstanding, but did do enough to back Wheeler tonight. The first run of the game scored on an Amed Rosario groundout in the second inning. The game remained 1-0 until the sixth inning, when the Mets loaded the bases with nobody out. An Austin Jackson infield single that deflected off the pitcher brought in one run, and a Kevin Plawecki sacrifice fly added another run to make it 3-0.

The Mets stranded two runners in that inning, though, and left two more on in the eighth. They stranded eight runners on base all night, but it didn’t matter in the end, as the bullpen was able to back Wheeler in the eighth and ninth innings to close out the victory.

Full recap to follow.
