Final Score: Braves 5, Mets 4 — Inciarte strikes again

The Mets drop their second straight series.

MLB: Atlanta Braves at New York Mets Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

Despite leading for most of the game, a victory wasn’t in the cards today, as the Mets dropped the series finale to the Atlanta Braves 5-4 this afternoon in Queens.

The Mets got off to an early lead, when Wilmer Flores hit a line drive that went off the glove of Braves’ pitcher Julio Teheran, scoring Amed Rosario from third base. In the bottom of the third, Rosario scored his second run of the game when Jeff McNeil drove him in with a double to right field. One inning later, Austin Jackson hit a solo home run, putting the Mets up 3-0.

The Braves scored their first run off Corey Oswalt in the top of the fifth when Teheran, the opposing pitcher, hit a solo home run. In the seventh inning, Oswalt gave up the tying runs in the form of a home run off the bat of Ender Inciarte with Johan Camargo on base. That was the end of Oswalt’s day, going 6+ innings, striking out four and walking none.

In the top of the ninth, Ronald Acuna Jr drove in Enciarte with the Braves’ first lead of the day. Later that inning, Devin Mesoraco tied the game with a solo home run, sending it into extra innings.

Nick Markakis hit a homer off of Tyler Bashlor in the top of the tenth, again putting the Braves on top. Wilmer Flores led off the bottom of the tenth with a double, and was moved over to third by a Michael Conforto ground out. Ultimately, Flores was stranded at third, and the Mets lost their fifth of their last six games.
