Meet the Mets

With inclement weather in the forecast the Mets decided to scratch Jacob deGrom and start Corey Oswalt in his place. He pitched three innings and kept the Phillies in check after giving up a home run to Rhys Hoskins in the first. The Mets were able to tie it up and went ahead when Michael Conforto blasted a three-run home run. The Phillies crept closer but the bullpen was able to nail down the victory.

The Mets decided to scratch deGrom when they thought there was a chance the start would be interrupted by rain.

Even though their ace was scratched, the Mets still managed to get a win against the Phillies. This win was a good sign for them as they look toward 2019 with hopes of contention.

Dominic Smith had a pinch-hit double in the series finale which could be the result of a revised approach at the plate that so far seems to be paying of for him.

For the past nine years the Mets have been one of the worst offensive teams at home. Now they are trying to figure out if there are some underlying reasons as to why they just can’t seem to hit at Citi Field.

Around the National League East

The Braves took the series from the Diamondbacks with a comeback led by Ender Inciarte.

The Marlins and Pirates were rained out in Pittsburgh and the game will be played on October 1.

Vince Velasquez and the offense were not good in the Phillies’ loss.

The Nationals and Cubs were also rained out but their game will be made up much sooner on September 13.

Around Major League Baseball

The Angels will reportedly discuss a contract extension with superstar Mike Trout in the offseason.

The Dodgers closed the gap in the NL West by taking the series from the first-place Rockies.

Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge is still experiencing pain in his fractured wrist but will take batting practice on the field this week.

Tempers flared in the Brewers and Giants game after Madison Bumgarner hit Ryan Braun with a pitch.

A controversial call helped the Red Sox defeat the Astros.

This Date in Mets History

The Mets were on a roll on this date in 1969. After sweeping a two-game series against the Cubs, the Mets swept a doubleheader against the Expos to take first place for the first time in franchise history.
