The Mets beat the Marlins by a 13-0 score at Citi Field in the only game of what had been scheduled to be a doubleheader—a game that was delayed several hours by rain. Zack Wheeler was incredibly efficient, as he threw just 89 pitches through eight scoreless innings, but he wasn’t given the opportunity to pitch the ninth and get the shutout because the Mets just can’t let anyone enjoy anything.
At the plate, things also went exceedingly well. Amed Rosario hit a three-run home run, Jeff McNeil went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in, Jay Bruce hit a grand slam, Dominic Smith hit a home run, and there was plenty more, including a seven-run bottom of the sixth.
Paul Sewald threw a scoreless ninth to finish the game after Wheeler was removed.
