Steven Matz drove in two runs for the Mets on his first career home run, which was pretty awesome. Michael Conforto and Todd Frazier went back-to-back in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mets a 4-3 win over Miami. That’s really awesome.
On the mound, Matz had an okay afternoon as he went 6.1 innings while giving up three runs on three hits. Of those three hits allowed, two of them were home runs that drove in all of the Marlins’ 3 runs.
On the offensive side for the Mets, it was almost all Matz right up until the end. Brandon Nimmo lead off the bottom of the first with a double, but that was the only other hit in the game until the ninth inning. Matz’s two-run home run in the second inning drove in both of the Mets’ runs that helped to keep things close, and Conforto and Frazier drove in the two runs to win it.
The day is far from over for the Amazin’s as they will head back out onto the field shortly to start up the second game of today’s doubleheader. Jason Vargas will take the bump up against the rookie Jeff Brigham.
Full recap to follow.
