The Mets defeated the Braves 3-0 at Citi Field this evening. Jacob deGrom put the finishing touches on his (now more than likely) Cy Young season, going eight innings, giving up two hits, no walks, and striking out ten. He ended his night ratcheting up his 1,000th career strikeout.
Offensively, the Mets scratched out three late runs off the bats of Dominic Smith and Michael Conforto. In the sixth inning, Conforto struck a double to right field, and came around to score on a Smith single. Two innings later, both added solo home runs to give deGrom a 3-run lead.
But, again, the story was all deGrom. In what has been a truly incredible season, he continues to find new ways to impress. After lead off hits in the first and second, deGrom didn’t allow another base runner all night. Let’s get him that award, BBWA.
Full recap to follow.
