Final Score: Mets 1, Marlins 0 - I got 1 on it

New, 40 comments

The Mets finally broke through and won David Wright’s final game.

MLB: Miami Marlins at New York Mets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

It took 13 innings, but the Mets topped the Marlins 1-0 in 13 innings on David Wright night. Steven Matz was brilliant for six innings, and the bullpen was equally excellent for seven of their own, but the offense could not break through until Austin Jackson lined a walk off double in the 13th.

The outcome of the game is largely irrelevant next to David Wright leaving the field for the last time. He walked once. He made a play in the field. He got his uniform dirty on a slide. Gary, Keith, Howie, Josh, every fan watching, and most importantly David, cried. And so the career of the greatest Met in history ends.

Tomorrow afternoon, in the final game of the season, Noah Syndergaard takes the mound against Sandy Alcantara.

Full recap to follow.
