Thanks to another brilliant start from Jacob deGrom and some ninth inning heroics from Brandon Nimmo, the Mets topped the Dodgers 4-2. deGrom tossed six innings of one run ball, allowing only two hits and striking out six. He had two hits and an RBI of his own, but got a no-decision thanks to a dormant Met offense. Brandon Nimmo came through late, however, launching a three-run, pinch hit home run. Robert Gsellman worked around some traffic in the ninth to preserve the lead.
It’s the first time the Mets have beaten the Dodgers since May of 2016, as Los Angeles had won 12 straight. More importantly, Jacob deGrom continued to show why he is the most deserving Cy Young candidate in the National League, maintaining his 1.68 ERA. Jason Vargas takes the mound against fellow southpaw Rich Hill tomorrow evening.
Full recap to follow.
