Meet the Mets
The organization is planning on bringing in Joe Girardi, Carlos Beltran and Mike Bell for in-person interviews as their search for a new manager begins to take shape.
Girardi’s former boss, Brian Cashman, gave him a ringing endorsement for the job in a recent interview.
No word yet on if Dusty Baker will get an interview, but he certainly seems to be what the Mets are looking for in their new skipper.
Salary arbitration projections are out and a few Mets are due for some nice pay raises.
Around the National League East
The Braves were absolutely embarrassed by the Cardinals in an elimination game of the NLDS. They were down 10-0 after the first inning and it was pretty much over from there. The team still had a good year but they need to figure out how to build upon this season. One area about their future is clear. They will be without Brian McCann who announced he is retiring.
The Braves made a half-hearted attempt to do the right thing before the game and removed the foam tomahawk giveaways from the stadium but the Tomahawk Chop was still played during the game.
Old friend Neil Walker provided some fun moments for the Marlins last season.
The Phillies are lacking direction right now but exactly who is the right person to get them back on track? Aaron Altherr was bad on the Phillies too.
The Washington Nationals won a postseason series.
Around Major League Baseball
The Cardinals’ walloping of Atlanta in the first inning was a historical feat that had never been done before.
Dave Roberts managed Game 5 as badly as possible which directly led to the Dodgers loss.
Los Angeles tried to make sense of what went wrong after such a dominant season.
Tyler Glasnow and Gerrit Cole were former teammates on the Pirates and now they will face off against each other in a do-or-die Game 5 of the ALDS.
In addition to Joe Maddon, Buck Showalter and John Farrell are also getting consideration for the vacant managerial position for the Angels.
Yesterday at Amazin’ Avenue
In Robert Wolff’s latest episode of UnforMETable, he discussed relief pitcher Rick White.
Jack McLoone reviewed Daniel Zamora’s forgettable season.
Allison McCague wrote about the latest managerial rumors.
This Date in Mets History
On this date in 1973, Tom Seaver helped lead the Mets to victory over the Reds and the Amazins were headed to the World Series.
