Meet the Mets
The Mets lost out on Joe Girardi who is the new manager of the Phillies. Girardi had the most experience out of all the candidates they interviewed so if he wasn’t their guy what qualifications are they looking for in their new skipper?
There might be legitimate reasons that the organization did not want the former Yankees skipper but the team has not earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to ownership’s reputation.
Now that they lost out on one of the top managerial candidates, where do the Mets turn to find their guy?
Both Pete Alonso and Jacob deGrom were honored by their peers when they took home Players Choice Awards. Alonso took home 2019 NL Outstanding Rookie Award and deGrom was named NL Outstanding Pitcher of the Year.
Around the National League East
Braves infielders Josh Donaldson and Ozzie Albies were named finalists for a Gold Glove. Donaldson was also named Comeback Player of the Year by the MLBPA.
Old friend Curtis Granderson received his fourth Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award and deservedly so.
Joe Girardi is reportedly the next skipper for the Phillies. Three Philadelphia players were also named finalists for Gold Gloves.
The good defense continued for almost every team in the NL East except the Mets. Three Nationals are finalists for a Gold Glove.
Around Major League Baseball
After a few days and a PR disaster on all fronts, the Astros finally fired assistant GM Brandon Taubman.
Despite the firing, GM Jeff Luhnow said nothing that would allay any fears that there is a larger cultural problem in the Astros organization.
The apologies didn’t stop with Houston. After a controversial tweet, umpire Rob Drake also issued an apology for his threats of gun violence.
Rays executive Chaim Bloom is rumored to be the favorite for the vacant Boston general manager position.
The Padres reportedly hired Jayce Tingler to be their new manager.
The talent is off the charts in this year’s 2019 Players Choice Award winners.
Yesterday at Amazin’ Avenue
Justin Wilson was a breath of fresh air in what was otherwise a beleaguered Mets bullpen.
Simeon Woods Richardson was the second best pitcher Steve Sypa saw in the minors last season.
