Final score: Mets 11, Nationals 8—Mets capitalize on Nats’ bullpen

The Mets beat up on the Nationals’ bullpen to beat them again.

MLB: New York Mets at Washington Nationals Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

After taking an early lead that the Nationals eventually erased, the Mets turned a 4-4 tie into a laugher by beating up on the Nationals’ bullpen to win their second game and first series of the season this afternoon. With the game still tied in the top of the eighth, the Mets scored four runs, and in the ninth, they tacked on three more.

Noah Syndergaard was more human than Thor in his first start of the year, which is nothing to be alarmed about. He struck out seven without walking anyone in six innings of work, but he gave up all four of the runs the Nationals scored. It was a reminder that the Nationals’ lineup is still pretty good, even without Bryce Harper on the team.

The Nationals rocked Seth Lugo in the ninth inning to score four runs, but Edwin Diaz came in and ended the game by getting the final out on one pitch.

Oh, and the game included a Wilson Ramos infield single. Really.

Full recap to follow.
