The New York Mets lost their first game of the year, dropping the series finale to the Washington Nationals, 6-5. Although the dream of the 162-0 season has gone by the wayside, the Mets still took the first series of the year from a division rival.
Zack Wheeler started for the Mets, and started strong, until Trea Turner knocked a three-run home run in the third inning. On the day, Wheeler went 5 innings, giving up four runs, striking out seven, and walking one.
Pete Alonso continued his hot start, knocking in the first run of the game, doubling in Brandon Nimmo in the top of the third. The Mets, behind the bats of Amed Rosario, pinch hitter Wilson Ramos, and Juan Lagares, battled all the way down from 5-2 to tie the game in the top of the eighth. But Turner struck again, taking Justin Wilson deep in the bottom of the ninth for the walk-off win.
Full recap to follow.
