As the Mets took down the Braves 6-3 to take control of the top spot in the division, the future of the offense was the star of the show. All of the Mets runs came home off the bats of Amed Rosario and Pete Alonso who drove in four and two of the runs, respectively.
The story of this game cannot be told without mentioning Pete Alonso’s 454 foot, 118.3 mph home run in the seventh inning. The fielders could do nothing but watch as the ball flew over the center field wall, past the batter’s eye, and splashed down in the fountain. Although it was outdone, Amed Rosario provided an impressive home run and bat drop combo of his own in the Mets’ half of the second inning.
Steven Matz put up a quality start, going six full innings, while only allowing two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts on the ledger. Following tonight’s game, Matz’s ERA is sitting at 1.65 through his first three starts, the lowest figure in the Mets’ rotation and the fifth lowest in the league. To wrap up the final three innings, Robert Gsellman, Luis Avilan, Jeurys Familia, and Edwin Diaz combined to silence the Braves and send the Mets back into first place.
Full recap to follow.
