Meet the Mets

The Mets brought the power to Atlanta in the form of two home runs by Amed Rosario and Pete Alonso. Alonso’s massive blast certainly stole the spotlight, but Rosario had four RBIs on the night and gave the Mets the lead early. Despite being let down by his defense, Steven Matz settled down and pitched his best game of the season. The bullpen bent but didn’t break and the Mets walked away with the victory.

Pete Alonso could just be making his debut this weekend, but instead he has rewarded the Mets’ faith in him (paywall alert).

Alonso’s mammoth home run in the seventh inning was the hardest hit anyone has recorded in the majors this season.

With the young slugger on a tear it has been hard for Dominic Smith to crack the lineup but his manager still believes in him.

Even with the playing time tilted heavily towards one, the two first baseman remain close friends and cheer each other on.

Juan Lagares again got the start but Keon Broxton could eventually push his way into the lineup.

Robert Gsellman looked shaky in the seventh inning but he managed to work his way out of it.

Todd Frazier continued his rehab stint in Florida and is very close to returning.

Lenny Dykstra is suing Ron Darling for defamation, and both do have arguments if the case makes it to trial.

Around the National League East

The Braves signed Ozzie Albies to a five-year, $35 million extension. The young second baseman signed a contract that significantly undervalues his talents. The Mets put a stop to Atlanta’s win streak.

The Marlins offense was stagnant again as they were swept by the Reds.

Both Nick Pivetta and Aaron Nola have struggled early on but should the Phillies be worried about them? Philadelphia is reportedly hosting the All-Star game in the year 2026.

The Nationals’ reported deal with reliever Bud Norris will not be completed after all.

Around Major League Baseball

Adam Jones defended his former teammate Manny Machado and thinks race plays a role in how he is treated (paywall alert).

The red-hot Mariners set a new record when they hit a home run in fifteen straight games to start the season.

Vlad Guerrero Jr. certainly looked major league ready in his Triple-A debut.

Yankees executive Jean Afterman is still hopeful that one day there will be a woman hired as a general manager (paywall alert), and Jessica Mendoza understands the importance of what she has accomplished and what it could mean for other women and girls who want to work in the field.

Minor League Baseball ordered Baseball America to stop posting videos from the minor leagues on their website.
