Meet the Mets

Neither team played particularly well but it was the Phillies emerged victorious. Jason Vargas was good for Jason Vargas but the Mets’ offense was stymied by Vince Velasquez. The wheels then completely came off in the later innings. Despite the loss the Mets still took the series and now have an off day before welcoming the Brewers to Citi.

Jason Vargas was not awful in his latest start, but the Mets passing on Gio Gonzalez was an epic fail on their part.

The Mets and Jacob Rhame are playing a dangerous game with the Phillies they might not win.

Brandon Nimmo didn’t start the game but he did play in the latter innings so it would seem the oblique isn’t a concern.

Jeff McNeil had a tough night at the plate, but his overall success should not come as a surprise to those who paid attention to his career in the minors.

Pete Alonso’s pinch hit appearance didn’t go well in the last game against the Phillies, but so far everything points to him being the real deal for the Mets, and his leadership in the clubhouse has not gone unnoticed.

Jacob deGrom threw another bullpen session and is on track to start the opener against the Brewers.

Brodie Van Wagenen is new to this position but he talked about what lead him to the Mets and what led him to accepting the GM job.

Around the National League East

The Braves evened up their series against the Reds behind a strong start by Mike Soroka.

The Marlins fell apart late in their loss against the Indians.

The Nationals lost to the Rockies and dropped the series against them. Trevor Rosenthal hasn’t gotten any better and now it’s getting dangerous for the hitters.

This Date in Mets History

This was a good day for the Captain back in 2012. A two-run blast against the Marlins put David Wright into first place on the Mets’ all-time leaderboard for RBIs.
