Final Score: Nationals 5, Mets 1 - Unsightly text

Wilmer Font’s second Met start did not go well, and the Mets fell to the Nationals.

MLB: New York Mets at Washington Nationals Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

A rough start from Wilmer Font doomed the Mets, who lost 5-1 to the Nationals. Font made it only 2.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits and two walks, striking out two. It raises his ERA on the season to a ghastly 7.08, and re-emphasizes the Mets’ dire need for additional rotation depth. The bullpen performed surprisingly well in this one, with Drew Gagnon, Tyler Bashlor, and Jeurys Familia combining for 5.2 innings of scoreless relief (though they only struck out three). Unfortunately, the only offense the Mets could muster against Patrick Corbin came on an RBI double from J.D. Davis in the third, and the team managed only four hits as a whole.

The loss drops the Mets to 20-21. They’ll play one more in Washington tomorrow with Zack Wheeler on the mound against Anibal Sanchez.

Full recap to follow.
