In a back-and-forth affair that featured both bullpens blowing leads, the New York Mets came out on top by a 6-5 score. Amed Rosario played hero, as he legged out an infield single to beat the throw from Trea Turner and help the Mets earn their second straight win against the Washington Nationals.
Zack Wheeler was cruising through six innings, but was burned by a Brian Dozier two-run home run in the seventh. New York jumped back in front in the bottom half of the inning on a J.D. Davis pinch-hit three-run home run, only to see Washington re-take the lead in the top of the eighth.
Pete Alonso tied things up in the eighth with his team-leading 16th home run, which also set a Mets rookie record for home runs before the All-Star break. After Edwin Diaz held down the fort in the ninth, New York prevailed against the Nationals’ beleaguered bullpen.
