The Mets defeated the Dodgers 7-3 this evening in Los Angeles. It was a battle of left-handed starters, with veteran Rich Hill taking on the relative youth of Steven Matz. Both had their curveballs going, and both limited the damage early on.

Michael Conforto got the Mets on the board early nubbed a slow ball kept within the infield that was ruled a fielder’s choice, even though Conforto would’ve beaten the throw to first. Regardless, it scored Matz to put a run on the board. A Cody Bellinger two-run home run in the bottom of the third put the Dodgers ahead, though it was quickly answered by a Todd Frazier solo home run a half inning later.

In the seventh, with the score tied 2-2, the Dodgers’ bullpen loaded the bases before Conforto smacked a grand slam to left-center field, putting the Mets up 6-2. Each team would add a run before the game was over, but the Met lead never faltered, and they evened up the series heading into Wednesday’s game three.
