In one of the most pathetic losses in recent memory, the Mets fell 9-8 to the Dodgers. Noah Syndergaard pitched well, allowing three runs over six innings on a couple of tough luck hits, and the Mets were up five by the time the bullpen took over. The Dodgers then scored one off of Robert Gsellman in the seventh, one off of Jeurys Familia in the eighth, and four off of Edwin Diaz in the ninth to come from behind.
The absolute meltdown from the bullpen wasted an excellent offensive showing. Pete Alonso had two home runs, both of them two-run shots, and Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith each had a solo home run of their own. Adeiny Hechavarria got in on the action as well, knocking two RBI hits.
Mercifully, the Mets only play one more in Chavez Ravine before heading off to Arizona. Jason Vargas will take the mound against Hyun-Jin Ryu tomorrow night.
Full recap to follow.
