Final Score: Brewers 4, Mets 3-May day

It took eighteen innings for this game to finally end.

MLB: New York Mets at Milwaukee Brewers Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

Despite taking the lead in the top of the eighteenth, the Mets were walked off in bottom of the inning after Ryan Braun got a hit with the bases loaded to give them the 4-3 victory. Chris Flexen had trouble throwing strikes and was finally burned.

The game wasn’t totally Flexen’s fault since the offense was putrid all night. They did get on the board first after Amed Rosario tripled home Wilson Ramos, but it took them until the ninth to get on the board again. Down one, Pete Alonso tied the game with a home run.

That was it for the scoring for on both sides until a Jeff McNeil single gave the Mets the lead in the eighteenth, only for them to give it right back in the bottom of the inning.

The Mets’ pitching overall was good. Zack Wheeler was solid but Robert Gsellman was the real standout and gave the Mets length when they needed it. Out of options, the Mets had to turn to Flexen and he wasn’t able to preserve the lead. With the loss, the Mets are now below .500 for the first time this season.

Full recap to follow.
