Low-A - Columbia Fireflies (9-21)

LEXINGTON 7, COLUMBIA 6 (BOX)

The Fireflies made things interesting in the ninth, but the comeback fell short in a 7-6 loss to Lexington. Simeon Woods-Richardson worked through two scoreless innings but got shelled in the third, walking three, allowing two singles, and uncorking a wild pitch without recording a single out. He was ultimately charged with five runs in 2+ innings, and his implosion erased an early 3-0 lead. Jose Moreno gave up two more runs in the fourth, but the rest of the Columbia bullpen held fast to keep the game within reach. Thomas Szapucki in particular was excellent, striking out four over two innings. Yoel Romero scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to get the Fireflies a bit closer, and tallied an RBI single in the ninth along with Gerson Molina to cut the deficit to one. Ronny Mauricio came to the plate with the tying and go-ahead runs on base, but grounded out on the first pitch, and Brian Sharp followed with a hard line-out that ended the rally.
