Final Score: Padres 4, Mets 0-Shut down and shut out

The offense is still on vacation in California.

MLB: New York Mets at San Diego Padres Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

It was a pitcher’s duel in San Diego but it was Jacob deGrom who blinked first and the Mets fell to the Padres 4-0. The Mets couldn’t touch rookie Chris Paddack who handled the struggling Mets’ lineup with ease. He struck out 11 batters in over seven innings of work.

Jacob deGrom was almost as good except for a couple of mistakes to Hunter Renfroe. He gave up a solo home run in the fifth to the left fielder and a double that would later set up a sacrifice fly to double the Padres’ lead. He exited after seven innings of work and looks more like Jacob deGrom.

Justin Wilson entered behind deGrom and put the game out of reach when he gave up a two-run double to Eric Hosmer.

All told, it was just a typical recent Mets loss.
