Final Score: Mets 10, Braves 2—Hang Ten

The Mets excelled in all facets of tonight’s game.

MLB: New York Mets at Atlanta Braves Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets bounced back nicely after getting trounced last night and earned a 10-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park. After Atlanta dropped 12 on the Mets on Monday, New York returned the favor by scoring 10 tonight.

The Mets did the bulk of their damage against nemesis Julio Teheran, who owned a 2.35 ERA in 25 career starts coming into this game. The Mets jumped on Teheran for four runs in the third inning, which began with back-to-back doubles by Jeff McNeil and Pete Alonso and included a run-scoring double from Michael Conforto and an Amed Rosario single to drive in a run later in the frame. By the time they were done with him, Teheran had given up six runs.

Alonso would reach base in all six plate appearances, which included two doubles and two-run home run in the fourth. Conforto added a solo home run off Josh Tomlin in eighth and finished with two hits in four at-bats before being replaced by Juan Lagares in the eighth. McNeil also contributed a double, a single, and a solo home run in the ninth inning. Every member of the team’s lineup, including deGrom, picked up at least one hit in the victory.

Speaking of deGrom, the right-hander moved ahead of Al Leiter for seventh place on the team’s all-time strikeouts list after finishing with 10 punchouts on the evening. With 101 pitches after eight innings, Mickey Callaway let his starter take the mound in the ninth with a chance at a complete-game shut out. Those dreams died after Freddie Freeman and Josh Donaldson launched back-to-back home runs with one out in the eighth, which ended deGrom’s evening. Robert Gsellman entered to retire Charlie Culberson and Austin Riley to finish the game.

Congratulations are also in order for Gary Cohen, who called his 2,000th game for SNY tonight.

Full recap to follow.
