Although the game was tied going into the sixth inning, you’d never know it by the final score, as the Mets lost to the Braves by a 7-2 score in the rubber game of their three-game series in Atlanta. With that, the team is 1-2 to begin its grueling 11-game road trip.
Steven Matz was good until he wasn’t, as he gave up two runs through five innings but gave up three more in the sixth without recording any outs. Later in the game, Stephen Nogosek gave up two runs in his major league debut to account for the rest of the Braves’ runs on the night.
As for the Mets’ runs, one came in the first after Jeff McNeil doubled, stole third, and scored on a Michael Conforto ground out. The other scored on a double by Amed Rosario in the fourth.
