In a game that was an ugly slugfest from the get go, the Phillies defeated the Mets 13-7 this evening at Citizen’s Bank Park. Starters Steven Matz and Zach Eflin were both hit hard, but while the Mets’ bats got cold once the bullpen hit, the Phillies kept on hitting.

The Mets started the game off with two quick runs from RBI hits from Michael Conforto and Todd Frazier in the top of the first. But the Phillies answered right back, scoring three runs off of Matz in their first turn at bat. Matz would never look comfortable, and the two teams traded the lead back and forth over the first few innings. But in the bottom of the fifth, Maikel Franco and Jean Segura drove in three runs and put the game out of reach for the Mets.

Full recap to follow.
