As the Mets make their picks in this year’s amateur draft, we’ll do our best to keep track of them for you right here in this post. As the draft moves along, we’ll update this post with what picks the Mets have made, and we’ll link to our coverage of additional players as soon as we’re able to do so.
The Mets began this year’s draft, the first under new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen, by picking Brett Baty, a third baseman out of high school, with the 12th overall pick. And they went with right-handed pitcher Josh Wolf, also out of high school. with their second pick, which was the 53rd overall pick in the draft.
Picks in the first ten rounds have assigned slot values, and the league imposes penalties for teams that spend more than their allotted draft pool. The Mets’ total pool is $8,224,600. If a player drafted in the 11th through 40th rounds would have any amount of a bonus that goes over $125,000 counted against the team’s draft pool.
