Final Score: Mets 7, Giants 0 - Vicious Vargas

The much maligned Mets starter continued his recent run of success in a shutout win.

Jason Vargas was brilliant again - yes, you read that right - dominating the Giants en route to a 7-0 win. Vargas threw his first complete game and shutout as a Met, allowing only five hits, walking only one, and striking out eight while throwing 117 pitches. The Giants only got one runner past first base - Joe Panik’s leadoff double in the first - and look generally flummoxed by Vargas all night.

The Met offense was also clicking in this one. Robinson Cano returned with an RBI groundout in the first, though he later departed with an aggravation of the same quad injury he just returned from. Michael Conforto, Amed Rosario, and Adeiny Hechavarria all went deep, and Conforto added a sacrifice fly for good measure.

Zack Wheeler will take the mound against the team that drafted him in the series finale tomorrow, squaring off against Shaun Anderson.

Full recap to follow.
