To Build or Rebuild?

Firstly, I'll point out I'm bad at this, but for discussion's sake, here we go...

If we want to see the team not be this...

A rebuild is in order. But, a rebuild that does not include moving deGrom. With the tidbits of interest in Syndergaard, Wheeler, etc. what if the Mets could make these moves (and again, flame me if the trades make no sense, but come up with what is more realistic if you do).

Syndergaard to Houston for Kyle Tucker (OF) and Peter Solomon (RHP) and toss in another low level dude for giggles sake. Tucker is the 10th-ish best prospect, and Solomon is 10th-ish in the Houston system. They would make a move for Syndergaard to bolster their rotation and it proactively backfills their rotation with Cole hitting FA. I put Tucker and Solomon here as the team could use an OF and a pitcher to backfill for the loss of Syndergaard. Syndergaard would require top talent, and looking at the Astros OF, they have Springer, Brantley, Marisnik, Reddick and Fisher, so they have depth there. And if Tucker is untradeable, you could look at Corbin Martin (RHP) and Seth Beer (OF/16oz of goodness). Either way, I want two high level types that can start to make an impact in 2020.

Conforto to Cleveland for Zach Plesac (RHP) and Sam Hentges (LHP). Cleveland's OF is bad. I wanted to target their top pitching prospect, but I didn't see that happening. Plesac was a mid level ranked pitcher for them that has done pretty good in his first season so far. Most of the other prospects were pretty far off from being an impact at the major league level. I could certainly flip out Hentges for a position player such as Rocchio (SS) if Cleveland would do that.

Wheeler to Boston for Bobby Dalbec (3B). I have no clue how to judge what Wheeler will return, but I'd be hopeful it could net 1 bigger name vs. two lesser names. Not a ton in Boston's system, and with Devers and Chavis blocking Dalbec, maybe they'd be inclined to move him.

Vargas to Oakland for Skye Bolt (OF). No clue if Vargas would warrant this, but I'm looking for a CF option, and Bolt could stick in the OF everyday, or be more of a 4th OF type. Another option would be to roll Smith in with the trade and sweeten the return a bit, though I think I prefer to hold onto Smith, as he can spell Alonso as needed and is looking to be, uh, good.

Frazier to anywhere for a fringy RP type or whatever he would net. Eat cash if it gets you something nicer.

So, if all the above went down, you are looking at a roster that looks something like this:

f

It's a little Lefty heavy, but the bench is heavy on the Righty bats. And that isn't factoring in possibly moving Ramos as well. Certainly not play off material, but it ain't a bad base to build off of. And from there, you can go a bunch of directions, Look at signing someone like Cole (though that won't be cheap) or Odorizzi to shore up the SP now? Add another arm for the BP like Betances? Look at trading Rosario and sign Didi?

And then you are looking at Gimenez, Peterson, Hentges, Szap, other starting to make the leap. I'd feel bit of optimism with this, though bummed Conforto and Thor were gone. Maybe they have a punchers chance in 2021...
