Mets Rebuild

These proposals are based on what the Gm who shall not be named has hinted at. With the fact that the team does not have a top prospect over the age of 20, I would steer towards continuing to build the system with younger high upside prospects if they are not in the top 100. Rather than trade for a 23-24 year old who does not have much predictability left and does not make much of a dent in the overall system. Trades involving returns of top 100 prospects age does not matter.

Wheeler and Lugo to the Twins for Jordan Balazovic, Nick Gordon, and Misael Urbina

I do not think Wheeler himself would return a top 100 prospect but packaged Balazovic who is ranked 99 on mlb.com should be on the table. He is a 20 year old rhp with great size and would be a tremendous addition to the young group of Woods-Richardson, Wolfe, and Allan. Having 4 high upside arms who should all debut within 2 years of each other would give the mets another shot at the super rotation that led to the WS but then fell apart. Gordon is someone who can slot in at short next season if Rosario continues to not improve. Giving up Rosario at 23 years old does not make sense but Gordon would be able to step in while Gimenez has shown he needs more time. Urbina is a 17 year old who signed for $2.75 mil in last years international signing period and would be the ideal high upside guy to round out the deal.

Vargas to the Phillies for Mickey Moniak

Looking back at last years deal with the Phillies the Mets dealt a rental who not many saw a great market for but were able to snag a 50 grade prospect in Kilome. Moniak is a former #1 overall pick who doesn't turn 22 until next year and is already in AA. Moniak possesses the tools to stick in cf long term which is a major position of need as not only is the mlb lacking a true cf but there do not seem to be any ones in the organization currently.

Fraizer to the Rangers for Owen White

White is a soon to be 20 year old who went in the 2nd round in last years draft. White currently sits 93-95 at only 170 pounds so could potentially end up gaining a couple more ticks on his fast ball. He's another 50 grade prospect who's seen as having the ability to become a #2 or 3 starter at the big league level.

Juan Lagares to the Indians for Carlos Vargas (not likely to happen since Lagares stinks)

Vargas is a 19 year old rhp who can touch 100 but currently has a 8.33 era. This would be a deal where the mets just took anything for a player that wasn't coming back next season. Vargas has a 70 grade fast ball and 60 grade slider making him looking like a potential back was of the pen type of arm.

Offseason trades to make

Justin Wilson to the Cubs for Ethan Hearn

Hearn is a 6th round pick from the 2019 draft is a catcher with starter upside something the mets could definitely use. The cubs previously had Wilson and no team can have enough pen arms let alone consistent left handers.

Syndergaard for Mackenzie Gore, Anderson Espinosa and Joey Cantillo

If the Padres are only willing to give up Gore in a one for one I'd still sign up as he has the next Kershaw written all over him. Having a .08 era as a junior and .19 as a senior in hs, he's been able to maintain an incredibly low era with a 0.96 currently this season while just making his first AA start. At 20 years old he'll fit the new core the mets are building in the lower systems and gives them a no doubt ace of the future. Espinosa is a former big name prospect who could be ticketed to the pen coming off tj surgery and having a small frame the pen could limit future injuries. Cantillo is another 19 year old who would be more about future than present as he has a very solid build and has a sub 1 whip showing his ability to control his pitches at such a young age.

Matz and Ramos +cash to the Rays for Shane Baz and Shane Mcclanahan

I'm not sure if Matz has enough value to net the #92 overall prospect but with his control left and the Rays use of openers, Matz would be a great long option for them. Both Shane's could be seen as future pen options given the fact that I've had the Mets collect a massive amounts of arms. Baz is right handed and McClanahan is a lefty both armed with 65 grade fast balls and other plus pitches in their arsenal. The main focus with them would be an effort to limit their walks as the stuff will play its just a matter if they can find the zone enough.

Conforto to the Rockies for Brendan Rodgers and Ben Bowden

This trade would be made because of the Mets abundance of corner outfielders. With Nimmo, Mcneil, Smith, Davis and potentially Cespedes needing at bats trading Conforto for a haul would be a solution to the logjam. Brendan Rodgers has no place to play in Colorado and would become the Mets short stop or 3b of the future right away. Ben Bowden is currently a closer for the Rockies AA team and would potentially be able to be an 8th inning man to Diaz as early as next year.

As much as I would hate to see Degrom go, in a rebuild like this moving him would be the best move going forward but I do not see ownership giving the okay on a deal with him in it so he remains.
