The Mets won a laffer over the Twins this afternoon in Minnesota, outscoring the home team 14-4. The Mets scored 12 of their 14 runs in their final three innings, aided by some serious home runs.
Jason Vargas started for the Mets, and Vargas was his consistent, mid-2019 self: six innings of three run ball, where he struck out four and walked one. The Twins held the lead going into the seventh inning, but that is when the Mets’ bats came alive. Dominic Smith got the rally going with a three run home run, giving the Mets their final lead of the day.
But the team kept piling on, including a triple to Amed Rosario (who already had a home run early in the game) and a towering, 474 foot home run from Pete Alonso.
The bullpen didn’t look great, but they limited the damage and got the job done.
Full recap to follow.
