The Mets made a string of roster moves Tuesday as they look to face the Yankees with a fresh bullpen. Relievers Jeurys Familia, Luis Avilan, and Justin Wilson were all activated from the Injured List while infielder Luis Guillorme was recalled from Triple-A.
The countering moves were the demotions of relievers Chris Flexen, Brooks Pounders, Stephen Nogosek, and Chris Mazza to Triple-A. The quartet had combined for a 6.21 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP across 29 innings for the Mets this season.
Familia last pitched on June 17th, giving up three earned runs in a third of an inning, after which he was placed on the injured list with a shoulder lesion. Wilson has seen multiple setbacks in his recovery from unspecified elbow soreness and has pitched in just 10 games this season. Avilan has been on the Injured List since the beginning of May, also due to elbow soreness. The combined ERA for the trio for 2019 is 7.55.
Guillorme has been thriving in Syracuse with an .852 OPS, though his 19 plate appearances in the big leagues this year have been largely uneventful.
