NO GAME (SCHEDULE)

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (35-29/16-17)

BINGHAMTON 3, READING 2 (BOX)

Binghamton’s pitching didn’t wrack up a ton of strikeouts, but they were just effective enough to hang on to a 3-2 win over Reading. Tommy WIlson got the start and tossed six scoreless, allowing only two hits. Binghamton backed him with two runs on a home run from Quinn Brodey and a single from Patrick Mazeika, then added another run in the eighth on Gavin Cecchini’s double. That run proved critical, as Stephen Villines coughed up two in the bottom half, but steadied before the lead was lost. Adonis Uceta allowed two hits but worked with it to record the save.

Advanced-A: St. Lucie Mets (32-34/22-12)

ST. LUCIE 5, PALM BEACH 1 (BOX)

Thomas Szapucki made what was perhaps his true return to the mound, dominating in a 5-1 win over Palm Beach. After being limited to short starts or relief appearances for much of the season, Szapucki has been stretched out a bit more lately, and he had his first vintage performance on Monday. The lefty struck out nine, walked only two, and gave up no runs over five innings. There’s still a ways to go, but it’s an encouraging sign from someone who was once one of the more exciting pitching prospects in baseball. St. Lucie backed Szapucki with five runs, led by Wagner Lagrange’s three-RBI day that included his first homer of the year for St. Lucie. Edgardo Fermin also had a nice day, going 2-for-4 with a steal and a double.
