SYRACUSE 7, ROCHESTER 6 (BOX)
Tuesday evening’s game between the Syracuse Mets and the Rochester Red Wings remained scoreless until the top of the third, when Danny Espinosa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Syracuse scored again in the top of the fourth on a solo shot off the bat of Tim Tebow. Rochester scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, and two more in the bottom of the fifth off of Ervin Santana, taking a 3-2 lead in the process. Rochester then scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth off of Casey Coleman to extend their lead to 6-2. Syracuse rallied from there, scoring four runs in the seventh to tie the game, and another run, when Rajai Davis scampered home on a wild pitch from old friend Carlos Torres, to take the lead in the top of the eighth. Tim Peterson shut the door on the Rochester Red Wings from there, hurling two scoreless innings of relief, and the Syracuse Mets held on to win 7-6.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning of yesterday’s game against the Erie Seawolves on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andres Gimenez. Gavin Cecchini hit a two-run homer in the following inning, giving the Rumble Ponies a 3-0 lead. Erie tied the game at three apiece in the bottom of the fifth, and took the lead in the following inning on a solo-shot from Erie’s Frank Schwindel. The Rumble Ponies rallied to tie the game in the top of the eighth, when Cecchini drew a walk with the bases loaded, but Adonis Uceta was unable to shut the door in extra innings. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies ultimately lost to the Erie SeaWolves 5-4.

The St. Lucie Mets took an early lead in last night’s game against the Charlotte Stone Crabs on a double from Jacob Zanon that drove in two runs in the top of the third. Things went south quickly for the Mets from there. Luc Rennie allowed four runs to score in the bottom half of the inning, and Charlotte added a run in the bottom of the fourth, and two more in the bottom of the fifth. Jeremy Vasquez doubled home a run in the top of the sixth, but the Mets allowed Charlotte to score two more in the bottom of the seventh. The St. Lucie Mets were unable to cut into the Charlotte lead from there, and ended up losing to the Charlotte Stone Crabs 9-3.

Christian James allowed a run in the top of the first inning of last night’s game between the Columbia Fireflies and the Greenville Drive. The Fireflies took the lead in the bottom half of the inning on RBI singles from Mark Vientos and Hayden Senger. Greenville broke the game open in the top of the second, scoring five runs, and put the game well out of reach in the third, scoring four more for good measure. The Columbia Fireflies scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo-shot from Wagner Lagrange, and in the bottom of the ninth on a wild pitch, but ultimately fell to the Greenville Drive 10-4.

The Brooklyn Cyclones rallied late to defeat the Hudson Valley Renegades in last night’s game. Hudson Valley took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third off of Daison Acosta. Brooklyn broke through in the top of the sixth inning, on an RBI single from Mississippi State baseball legend Jake Mangum, followed by a three-run homer from Joe Genord. Hudson Valley responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but Brooklyn responded with a run of their own in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Jake Ortega. The Brooklyn Cyclones added two more runs in the top of the eighth on a double from Joe Genord, and held on to defeat the Hudson Valley Renegades 7-4.

The Kingsport Mets broke through first in the bottom of the second inning of last night’s game against the Bristol Pirates on an RBI groundout from Cole Kleszcz. Bristol scored a run in the top of the eighth off of Jefferson Escorcha, and two more off of Hector Rodriguez in the top of the ninth to put Kingsport behind 3-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Kingsport managed to tie the game in the ninth, on an single from Cristopher Pujols that drove in two, and walked the game off a few batters later on an RBI single from Scott Ota. The Kingsport Mets managed to pull off the dramatic come from behind victory last night against the Bristol Pirates, winning 4-3.

Not a lot went right for the GCL Mets in yesterday afternoon’s game against the GCL Marlins. Francisco Alvarez homered in the bottom of the first to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead. The Marlins took the lead in the top of the third, when they scored five total runs off of Robert Colina. The Marlins were helped by two fielding errors by the Mets in the inning, which were among seven total Mets errors in the game. The GCL Marlins continued to pummel the GCL Mets from there, scoring runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. The GCL Mets scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, when Francisco Alvarez singled home Eduardo Salazar from third. The GCL Marlins scored a run in the top of the ninth, and ultimately defeated the GCL Mets 10-2.
