Final Score: Yankees 5, Mets 1 - German Studies

The Mets’ bats went silent in their finale with the Yankees

MLB: New York Yankees at New York Mets Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

The Yankees defeated the Mets 5-1 this evening at Citi Field, splitting the Subway Series with two wins apiece. Jason Vargas started for the Mets, and gave up two runs in the first inning, which would prove to have been enough for the Yankees. Vargas would have another run charged against him - part of back to back home runs given up by different pitchers - before giving way to Wilmer Font, who gave up two runs of his own.

Jeff McNeil provided the only offense for the Mets, leading off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run off of Domingo German. Pete Alonso hit a double for his 50th extra-base hit of the year, putting him 30 behind Carlos Beltran and Howard Johnson for the club record.

Gio Urshela flashed some incredibly impressive glove work tonight, and added a solo home run to have a truly impressive game.

Full recap to follow.
