With the trade deadline a little over 24 hours away, there are still numerous rumors surrounding the Mets.

Edwin Diaz

This morning, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic wrote that interest in Mets closer Edwin Diaz is still very high, with the Dodgers, Red Sox, Rays, Braves, and Padres among the teams to show interest. Andy Martino says that while the Mets are talking to other teams about Diaz, they do not feel they have to trade him unless they’re blown away by an offer. Mark Feinsand tweeted that the Red Sox are unlikely to land the closer.

Zack Wheeler

Rosenthal also wrote that the Astros were working hard to acquire starting pitcher Zack Wheeler. Andy Martino of SNY tweeted that a rival executive “fully expects” Wheeler to end up with Houston before the deadline passes. The Rays, Braves, and A’s have also been linked to Wheeler, who is set to become a free agent when the season ends.

Noah Syndergaard

While trading Noah Syndergaard perhaps seemed like it was going to happen a few days ago, Jon Heyman says the Mets appear less likely to move him. With the acquisition of Marcus Stroman on Sunday, it appears that Wheeler is the pitcher likely to be moved. Syndergaard and Wheeler are scheduled to start tonight and Thursday, respectively, against the White Sox.

Ken Rosenthal tweeted that Ervin Santana has been scratched from his start today with Triple-A Syracuse.
