It looked dire for a bit, but the Mets pulled out a win over the rival Phillies by a final score of 6-5 at Citi Field.
The Mets jumped out to an early lead but Noah Syndergaard gave it right back when he allowed two home runs to Jay Bruce and Maikel Franco in the second inning. The Phillies would continue to tack on runs against the big righty but the Mets were able to chip away every time the Phillies scored.
Everything came to a head after Todd Frazier was hit by a pitch by Jake Arrieta and tossed from the game. Both benches were warned but then when Amed Rosario was hit later in the inning Arrieta was allowed to stay in the game which led to Mickey Callaway’s ejection. When the fireworks settled, Tomas Nido doubled to give the Mets a two-run lead.
The Phillies pulled to within one but Edwin Diaz seemed to be a man on a mission tonight and emphatically shut the door with a strikeout of Jay Bruce to give the Mets a much-needed victory.
Full recap to follow.
