While most Mets fans are still focused on the current wild card race and the last 40 games of the 2019 season, the team gave a brief look into to next season by releasing its spring training schedule for 2020.
The Mets’ first two Grapefruit League games next year will occur on February 22, with the team playing split-squad games against the Marlins and Cardinals that day. The game against the Marlins will be the home game.
As has been the case for several years, the east coast of Florida is relatively barren, with most of the teams in the Grapefruit League choosing to have their spring training complexes on the west coast. As such, the Mets’ spring schedule once again mostly features games against the same handful of teams that it usually does. They will play the Cardinals and Astros seven times each and the Marlins and Nationals six times each. The Mets will leave the East coast of Florida only three times to play the Braves, Twins, and Tigers one time apiece, and the Twins and Tigers will both visit Port St. Lucie once.
The final spring training game will be on March 22 against the Marlins. The Mets then have three scheduled days off before come to New York to open the 2020 season against the Nationals on March 26 at Citi Field.
