Final Score: Mets 7, Pirates 5-Buffalo blasts Bucs

Wilson Ramos brought the power against the Pirates.

Marcus Sroman’s Mets’ debut did not go as planned but the Mets were able to rally late and beat the Pirates 7-5.

It looked ugly in the first for both teams when they both managed to load the bases against erratic starting pitchers. The Mets only came away with one run against Chris Archer whereas the Pirates were able to plate two against Stroman. To Stroman’s credit he made a fabulous play, limited the damage, and settled in. He left with one out in the fifth, and with the bases loaded, Luis Avilan hit a better to bring home the Pirates’ third run charged to the newest acquisition.

As for the Mets’ offense it all came down to Wilson Ramos. He drove in six of the Mets’ seven runs with two big blasts in the later innings. The first was a two-run home run to give them a lead in the eighth, and then he followed with a three-run double to give the Mets valuable insurance runs. Jeff McNeil had the only other RBI when he hit a pinch-hit home run in the seventh.

The Mets’ bullpen bent but didn’t break all night. Edwin Diaz again made it interesting in the ninth when he gave up a bomb to Starling Marte but he settled down and nailed down the victory to get the team back on the winning path.

Full recap to follow.
