Mets Daily Prospect Report, 8/31/19: Brett takes Brooklyn

Triple-A: Syracuse Mets (73-64)

ROCHESTER 6, SYRACUSE 1 (BOX)

The Syracuse Mets fell behind in the bottom of the first inning in last night’s game against the Rochester Red Wings. The Red Wings scored four runs off of Corey Oswalt through 5.1 innings. Syracuse scored their lone run of the game on an RBI single from Dilson Herrera in the top of the sixth, but ended up giving up two runs to Rochester in the bottom half of the inning. The Rochester Red Wings scored two more runs in the bottom of the eighth, and held on to defeat the Syracuse Mets 6-1.

ROSTER ALERT: Right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana has been assigned to the St. Lucie Mets from the Syracuse Mets.

Double-A: Binghamton Rumble Ponies (35-29/30-42)

BINGHAMTON 4, HARTFORD 2 (BOX)

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies fell behind in the top of the first inning of Friday evening’s game against the Hartford Yard Goats. David Peterson allowed Hartford to score on a throwing error in the first, but settled in from there, giving up just one unearned run on three hits with ten strikeouts. Binghamton got on the board in the bottom of the fourth, on a an RBI double from Dustin Houle, and took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single from Andres Gimenez. Gimenez stole second later in the inning on a successful double steal in which Edgardo Fermin stole home. Hartford scored a run in the top of the eighth, but Binghamton got the run back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from Houle, and ended up winning the game 4-2.

Advanced-A: St. Lucie Mets (32-34/36-32)

Low-A: Columbia Fireflies (24-42/28-39)

AUGUSTA 7, COLUMBIA 3 (BOX)

The Columbia Fireflies fell into a four run deficit in the bottom of the first inning of Friday evening’s game against the Augusta GreenJackets. Christian James gave up four in the first, two in the second, and one in the third inning. James left the game after a scoreless fourth inning, having given up seven runs on seven hits and three walks. The Fireflies got on the board in the top of the third inning, on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mark Vientos, and added a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI double from Guillermo Granadillo. Columbia got a third run in the top of the seventh, but ultimately lost to Augusta 7-3.

Short-A: Brooklyn Cyclones (40-32)

ABERDEEN 5, BROOKLYN 4 (BOX)

The Brooklyn Cyclones fell behind almost immediately in last night’s game against the Aberdeen IronBirds. Matt Cleveland gave up a pair of runs on a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning, and another on a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth. Brooklyn got on the board in the top of the third inning, when Brett Baty doubled home three runs in his second New York Penn League plate appearance. Brooklyn took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning, on an RBI single from Jake Mangum. Brooklyn came into the ninth with a one run lead, but Matt Mullenbach was unable to seal the victory. He allowed the tying run to score homer to start the inning, and the winning run on three consecutive singles. The Brooklyn Cyclones ultimately lost to the Aberdeen IronBirds 5-4.
