It was a team effort for the Mets this Thursday afternoon as Marcus Stroman and the offense came together to silence and wallop the Diamondbacks en route to a 11-1 victory in the last of a four-game series between the two.
While Stroman had a nice afternoon going 6.1 innings deep and only allowing one run to score on four hits, the offense was the star of the show as the Mets set a new team record by hitting six big flys in a game at home for the first time in team history. Todd Frazier, Robinson Cano, Tomas Nido, and Michael Conforto all had one homer on the afternoon and Juan Lagares swatted the other two, including the first grand slam of his career. Along with having the most home runs in home game, the Mets set a new single-season record for home runs in their home stadium as their six on the day pushed them past the previous record set in 2016.
Daniel Zamora and Chris Mazza combined to shutout the Diamondbacks over the eight outs to give the Mets a four game sweep and claw them within two games of the Brewers for the second Wild Card spot.
Full recap to follow.
