Final Score: Mets 6, Reds 3 - Staying Alive

The Mets bullpen held the line to keep the postseason hopes alive.

MLB: New York Mets at Cincinnati Reds David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

With the Mets essentially needing to go perfect the rest of the way, the bullpen protected a lead for more than four innings in a 6-3 win over the Reds. Michael Conforto highlighted the scoring with a three-run home run in the first, with J.D. Davis and Brandon Nimmo adding insurance with solo home runs later in the game. Those runs made this game much less stressful, as the Reds spent the entirety of this game chipping away against Marcus Stroman and the bullpen.

Stroman looked strong for 4.2 innings, but couldn’t escape the fifth after giving up a home run and three straight walks. A combination of Brad Brach, Edwin Diaz, Seth Lugo, and Justin Wilson navigated the final 4.1 innings, surrendering only one run. The win improves the Mets’ record to 81-74, clinching their first .500 season since 2016, and they’ll head back to New York to start a three game set with the Marlins on Monday.
